Could you be a Governor?

COULD YOU BE A GOVERNOR?

School governors are the largest volunteer force in the country! Governors come from all sections of the community and all walks of life. You don't need to be an expert. What's really important is that you can work in a team, and give time and commitment to the school. Everyone has something to offer.

WHAT'S IT ALL ABOUT?

The Governing Body works with the Headteacher and the staff at the school to make sure the school provides a good quality of education for all its pupils. Being a governor doesn't need specialist skills, just an ability to listen, think through new ideas, and decide what's best for the school as part of a team.

WHAT WOULD YOU HAVE TO DO?

You'll need to be able to give some time to go to meetings and read the paperwork. As a governor you will visit the school to understand how the school works. You will also have the opportunity to undertake appropriate training.

DO YOU HAVE WHAT IT TAKES?

Do you care about improving children's achievment?

Can you ask questions in a constructive manner?

Will you share your knowledge, expertise and skills for the benefit of the school as a whole?

Are you willing to work as part of a team and value the contributions of different people?

Can you stand by collective decisions even if you hold a different point of view?

Will you promote the school in the wider community?

Will you attent relevant training?

Are you enthusiastic and committed?

WHAT'S IN IT FOR YOU?

Being a school governor is a real opportunity to use your experience and to learn new skills. The school and Hampshire Governor Services will give you all the support and training you'll need.
