Information about sounds week of 19.9.11

As we introduce each letter we would like the children to ..

  • .say (stretch, or bounce) each sound
  • associate each sound with a picture. (They can find each letter sound they need displayed round the class.)
  • remember / recall the shape of each letter so they can use it to write with. (blending green words)
  •  IF THEY WANT TO - Write down each letter shape using correct cursive script

The letters covered whilst the children were part time are

m,   a,   t

and this week we will also introduce

 s and d

There follows a summary of the information we have given the children. It would be really helpful if you could go over this as much as possible in as many activities as you can dream up. This will give them the best opportunity for a positive start to their reading.

m : stretch mmmmountain (for handwriting say “and, down Maisie, over the mountain, over the mountain – mmmmm” each and every time you form the letter)

a  :  bounce a-a-a-apple ( for handwriting say “and, back round the apple, draw the leaf - a” each and every time you form the letter)

s  :  stretch ssssnake  ( for handwriting say “and, slither down the snake -sssssss” each and every time you form the letter )

d  :  bounce d-d-d-dinosaur (for handwriting say “and, back round the dinosaur, up his tall neck and down to his claws – d” each and every time you form the letter)

t  :  bounce t-t-t-tower (for handwriting say “and, down the tower, across the tower -t” each and every time you form the letter)
