Our trip to Porchester Castle

Year 2 visit to Portchester Castle Tuesday 15th February

On a cold, wet, windy day in February Year 2 visited Portchester Castle.

Not surprisingly, we nearly had the place to ourselves! We explored the roman walls and found out where the toilets once emptied into the sea.

We explored the inner bailey and discovered the kitchens in the King’s palace, an old fireplace and a well for fresh water supplies.

On the ground floor of the keep were lots of artefacts to find out about life in a castle.

Lunch in a castle was different!

We went up and up and up inside the keep. What a lot of steps! Some of them were spiral.

A scary story in a gloomy, dark castle keep finished off the visit.

Visiting a real castle brings history to life.
