Year 3/4 Sportshall Report
On Saturday 28th January a thirty-two strong squad from Brockenhurst took part in the NFSSP Sportshall Athletics and of Championships at Testwood Sports College...
This enabled us to have 4 teams each comprising two boys and two girls from both years 3 and 4. Teams were picked this year from the children's efforts during curriculum time (year 3) as reported by their teacher, as well as the early morning academy sessions. Numbers involved show that about half the children in the appropriate classes enjoyed representing their school competitively. With injury and illness necessitating last minute call-ups to complete teams, we were fortunate to be able to call upon members of our year 2 class, who were all a credit to their school.
Our year 4 children led by example, turning in solid performances and setting a good example for the younger members of their teams.
Special mention must go to the year 3 girls one lap sprinters (Poppy, Anika, Millie) , who but for a double fall in one of the races would have recorded a clean sweep in all four heats of the one lap sprints. Octavia, from year 2, receives special mention for recovering from an early fall to regain the lead, fall for a second time and still go on to finish her race and pick up valuable points.
After a tiring morning of competition, three of the Brockenhurst teams finished in the top 10 of eighteen teams, with our fourth team getting the nod over the second team from local rivals Sway. With last years victors , the mighty Abbottswood, out of the running in fourth place, the competition amongst the top three teams ran to the final race, and in the final reckoning Brockenhurst 'A Team' ( Finn, Bill, Poppy, Emily, Noah, Samuel, Katie and Gabriella) edged out Marchwood to finish in second place to Blackfield by the negligible margin of just 7 points.
Many thanks to competitors, team managers and parents alike for such a great morning of sport.
