************ Racket Sports Update *************
Table tennis has captured the imagination of some of our children during the past term and a half. We have established a link with Waterside Table Tennis Club, and usually take a car full children down on a Friday evening. The girls who are playing in the zone finals in Bournemouth later this month have benfitted from the expert advice of Tom Holt, who has kindly offered guidance through extra coaching sessions after school on Friday evenings. Three members of the school have been selected to play in the individual County finals on Friday this week (inset day) and others are setting their sights on the Badminton Tournament next month. We have currently entered 4 teams for the badminton event. If either of the sports mentioned appeal to you, why not give our early morning racket sports club a try!

School Games New Forest Badminton Tournament Report

The day started early, and finished late for the children selected to represent Brockenhurst in the school badminton team.
Report from Regional Finals of the English Schools Table Tennis Championships.

On Saturday five families reconvened once again to support the Brockenhurst girls as they took on three of the top 16 schools in the country. You can see the girls in action on the banners above this article
The girls between them played four hours of table tennis, testing the qualities not only important in the competition, but also admirable in everyday life. They showed great stamina, the ability to focuss even when tired, and were able to up their game when under pressure, holding their nerve and often coming from behind to win matches, and were magnaminous in defeat asns victory alike.
The standard of competition was significantly higher than anything the team had experienced, but the improvement in each team member's play over the past 5 months since winning the NFSSP event was impressive. Equally impressive was the standard of behaviour and the composure of the girls in defeat as well as victory.
The difference between the teams was marginal, only two matches resulting in outright victories and then only by two sets. In the final reckoning the Brockenhurst team finished in 4th place. Our team of Amber, Emily, Katie, Lucy and Molly can be proud of competing at a level of competition that few children achieve. Special mentions go to Katie who won all her matches and Amber, whose play earned her a place on the South West inter Counties team alongside Katie and other girls playing on Saturday. We eagerly await to see where this trail leads these two player and will keep you updated as they continue preparations for their next matches in Doncaster!
Well done all.
